In most lines of work many people have to wear uniforms as a part of their job, the reasoning behind having a uniform is normally to identify who works at the particular business or identifying people in an emergency such as a police officer. It’s important that some careers have uniforms as it means the worker feels involved and has a sense of pride and belonging.

This is true with police officers with extra badges and markings that denote their rank which serves to inform both the public but also fellow officers. What is little known is that there are many careers that need uniforms too, below are a couple of examples.

Nurse uniforms

Nurses will need identifying in an emergency much like a police officer but in a hospital environment. The uniform of a nurse has remained fairly similar over the years which are usually a blue dress of some sort. These days doctors, medical students and nurses tend to wear medical scrubs which are a t shirt and trousers in a colour that indicates their job. The material needs to be easily washed and have plenty of pockets for all the instruments and medical apparatus the nurse may need to have on them.

Chef/catering uniforms

Many people will be familiar with the term ‘chef whites’ which refers to the white uniform chefs typically wear, although they may not stay white for long. Chefs will normally need to have long hair tied back or wear some sort of hat or hairnet. Different restaurants and cuisines may have slight variations on this theme but they tend to all be similar. Waiting staff normally have a set uniform which can be traditional white shirt or blouse and black trousers or more contemporary restaurants may have a set colour scheme that is associated with their brand. Again due to the nature of their job chefs and waiting staff uniforms need to be easy to clean due to the likeliness of spillages.

Police uniforms

Police uniforms can be quite varied whilst remaining distinguishable and noticeable enough to make the general public aware of their presence. Police uniforms tend to be white shirts with a black tie with the iconic policeman’s helmet. Quite often police officers will be outside on patrol in cold weather and so you will often see police wearing high-visibility jackets making them easy to see if they are needed for any emergency. Police officers tend to have shoulder epaulets which will show their badge number and rank to identify them.

So there are many occupations that need some form of uniform to mainly show what their job is to make it easier to be identified by the public for assistance, whether we want to report a crime or place an order at a restaurant. A uniform can certainly help your customers identify your workers for quick and helpful service.
